President William Ruto has stepped up his attacks on Trans Nzoia Governor John Natembeya, accusing him of sabotaging the national government’s projects in the county.

Speaking during a tour of Trans Nzoia and West Pokot counties on Friday, the President accused the opposition-leaning Governor of mismanaging the county.

He arrived in Kitale town, Trans Nzoia County, ready to take on Governor Natembeya after days of simmering tensions between the two.

President Ruto launched the Masinde Muliro Market in Kitale town, days after the Governor threatened legal action should the Head of State proceed with the plan. Natembeya maintains that the market is a county-funded project.

After the launch, President Ruto went for the jugular, training his guns on the Governor, accusing him of blocking national government development projects in the county.

“Badala ya kupanga mambo ya wagonjwa una-sabotage. Kila kiongozi awajibike. Umepewa kazi ya kuwa kiongozi, badala ya kuweka hospitali dawa unaenda kutafuta biashara ya majeneza. Shame on you! Bure kabisa,” he said.

The President added that the Governor had rundown the county in the four years he has been in office.

“Mnataka nijenge stadium? Ule Governor wenu anasema yeye atajenga stadium na amekwama nayo miaka nne…ule Natembeya anasema anaweza. Anaweza? Bure kabisa,” said Ruto.

Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang’ added: “Aliamka asubuhi akatufungia hii district hospital. Watu wote waliokuwa kwa oxygen waliamshwa wakapelekwa Shakahola.”

The President then turned his guns on the opposition, saying he would thrash them in next year’s presidential election.

“You have no market for the hate you want to sell to Kenyans. Go look for an agenda, look for an agenda Kenyans are intelligent…don’t sell us hate, don’t sell us anger, don’t sell us ethnicity,” he said.

Meanwhile, local politics were at play in West Pokot County, as rowdy youth threw stones and bottles as Pokot South MP David Pkosing, who is eyeing governorship in the county, addressed the rally.
