Atsiaya took the oath alongside other members of the newly constituted CUKAA Executive Committee during a ceremony officiated by the university's Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Nyamongo.
The new executive draws together professionals from different fields, with plans to leverage their experience, networks and professional standing to strengthen the university's ties with its alumni base and support current students.
Other members sworn in include Mary Njoki Mbugua, an Assistant Lecturer at the Co-operative University of Kenya, who takes up the role of Vice Chairperson, and Peter Wawire Ongeti, Business Development Manager at CIC Insurance Group, Chairperson of CIC Sacco and a Co-op Bank Kenya Delegate, who was named Secretary.
Speaking during the ceremony, Nyamongo reaffirmed the university's commitment to building a mutually beneficial relationship with its alumni, describing them as key stakeholders and a living testimony to the institution's contribution to society.
"Alumni are integral stakeholders of the university and a living testimony of the contribution that the Co-operative University of Kenya makes to society," said Nyamongo.
He added that the new executive would play a central role in strengthening alumni networks while advancing mentorship, research, internships, fundraising, knowledge sharing and the university's visibility.
For Atsiaya, the appointment marks a new chapter in his relationship with an institution that shaped part of his professional journey, and an opportunity to mobilise successful alumni to give back to the next generation of students.
He said the association's success would ultimately be measured by the opportunities it creates for students and the strength of the connections it builds among alumni.
"We have alumni who have built successful careers in different fields. Our responsibility now is to bring that experience, knowledge and network together and make it useful to the students coming behind us," said Atsiaya.
A key priority for the association will be developing a structured mentorship programme linking students with professionals who can offer practical career guidance, industry exposure and insight into the transition from campus to the workplace.
The association also plans to roll out a sponsorship programme for needy and deserving students, alongside internship placements, professional networking opportunities and other forms of support.
Atsiaya said the vision was to build an alumni community where success is not treated as an individual milestone but as a chance to open pathways for others.
The executive will work to reconnect alumni from CUK and its predecessor institutions, encouraging greater participation in the university's development agenda.
The appointment brings Atsiaya's experience in cooperative-sector leadership together with the diverse expertise of the new CUKAA executive, positioning the association to strengthen ties between the university's alumni, its current students and the wider professional community.
As the new leadership settles into its tenure, its focus will centre on building a vibrant, connected alumni network capable of mentoring, supporting and opening doors for the next generation of CUK professionals.
