Police have recovered 445 sheep and goats following a multi-agency security operation in Kaloriwa village, Turkana County.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the operation saw officers engage suspected livestock thieves in an exchange of gunfire before the suspects fled, abandoning part of the stolen animals.

Officers initially recovered 365 sheep and goats, while the suspects escaped with the remaining livestock.

The security team subsequently split into two groups, with one escorting the recovered animals to safety as the other continued pursuing the suspects.

The operation led to the recovery of an additional 80 sheep and goats, bringing the total number of recovered animals to 445.

NPS confirmed that the initial batch of 365 animals had been handed back to their owners, while the remaining 80 were awaiting identification before being returned.

Security officers remain deployed in the area as efforts to track down the suspects and recover any other stolen livestock continue.
