Once arrested, Ayan Mohammed Afra is to answer to the charges of cruelty to a 13-yearold child she allegedly trafficked from Somalia last year.
Afra is said to have allegedly assaulted the minor with a chapati roller, causing suffering to her health.
Afra who was scheduled to appear before the Senior Principal Magistrate Cherono Kesse instead failed to turn up prompting the court to issue a warrant for her arrest.
She is said to have taken advantage of a Ksh. 20,000 police bond that he was granted at Eldoret central police station to go underground and never to present herself in the court to face the charge of human trafficking.
During the court session, it emerged that the suspect was nowhere to be see and that her house in Mwanzo estate has remained deserted since she jumped police bail to appear in the court.
An investigating officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) unit at the central police station brought to the attention of the court that the suspect was still at large.
Diana Komen, the Assistant Director of children service, Turbo sub-county informed the court that the woman had been subjecting the minor whom she had taken in as her house girl to cruelty for the last eight months.
The minor’s predicament came to the limelight after she disclosed to a neighbour about assault and cruelty she was going under from her employer since last year.
Alarmed by the victim’s confession, the neigbour reported the matter at the central police station whereupon the officers swung into action and arrested the woman and locked her in police custody.
The neighbor identified as Fatuman Mohammed took over the minor and hosted her in her house in the same Mwanzo estate for safety.
In her ruling, the Magistrate directed that the minor be taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret for treatment.
She also ordered that the victim should be enrolled in a madras school pending the hearing and determination of the child trafficking case
Cheronoh further allowed Ms Mohamed to continue hosting minors in her house and provide her with upkeep and other requirements.
