Police launch manhunt over pregnancies of more than 30 learners in Bungoma

Police in Bungoma have launched investigations and a manhunt for suspects believed to have impregnated more than 30 learners at Bakisa Secondary School.

The situation has raised concerns among the school community, with the institution’s management saying it has disrupted the education and well-being of affected minors.

“10 girls are currently expectant, 13 girls are mothers, another 13 have dropped out of school," said Bakisa Secondary School Principal, Ruth Malika.

The school’s headteacher says establishing a dormitory could help address the growing challenge and enable learners to complete their studies.

Authorities in the region have vowed to track down and take action against perpetrators preying on minors, in a bid to deter further offences.

“I have a list of the cases and we will deal with those responsible... wanafunzi hawawezi jitia mimba asilimia kubwa ya hizi mimba ni za watu wazima," said Webuye East Assistant County Commissioner, Emmanuel Kenga.

Parents have been urged to pay school fees on time to help curb absenteeism and ensure that students attend classes consistently, while also providing their children with proper guidance and support as they navigate the challenges of adolescence.
