Narok Central Police Commander Benson Pamba has come out to clarify a recent shooting incident at Sakutiek Police Station that occurred on March 27 and has since gone viral on social media, sparking debate over an alleged “unfair execution” of a suspect.

Pamba, while responding to the allegations via a phone call, said Benson Kasoni was arrested on March 27 for an assault offence and detained at Sakutiek Police Station.

The following day, March 28, Pamba said Kasoni’s brother, Wilson Sanet, stormed the station demanding his immediate release. However, when Deputy OCS IP Levy declined the request, the deceased allegedly drew a Maasai sword and attacked the officer in the report office, injuring him on the right palm and forehead.

It was at this point that IP Levy withdrew his pistol and shot Sanet twice, after which the incident was reported and members of the public responded.

A police team from Narok responded to the scene, which was subsequently documented.

Pamba said the body of the deceased was moved to Narok Referral Hospital morgue pending a postmortem, while IP Levy was rushed to Sakutiek Health Centre for medical attention.

However, while receiving treatment, a group of goons reportedly stormed the facility, forcing the doctor to flee.

“It is at that moment that the said goons dragged the Deputy OCS outside and attacked him before disappearing to unknown destinations,” Pamba said.

Police later responded and rescued the officer, who was rushed to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital before being referred to Kijabe Mission Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

He was later admitted to the high dependency unit at Nairobi Hospital, where he was discharged on Thursday after undergoing two major operations.

Pamba urged members of the public not to take the law into their own hands, adding that the suspect initially in custody has since been processed and remanded in prison awaiting further court proceedings.
