Police in Sotik, Bomet County, have arrested a suspect connected to the vandalism of Kenya Power transformers in the region.

Hassan Kipkurui Rotich was taken into custody following a tip-off from members of the public who alerted authorities about an ongoing act of vandalism in the area

“Officers from Kapletundo Police Station responded swiftly and caught Rotich red-handed,” said the DCI in a statement on X.

“Upon interrogation, he further revealed locations of two additional transformers that he and an accomplice, Collins Kibet who remains at large had previously vandalized, rendering them nonfunctional in Chepkosa and Cheptigit villages.”

Rotich and the exhibits were subsequently taken to Kapletundo Police Station, where the suspect remains in custody pending arraignment. A manhunt is currently underway for Kibet.

“The DCI is urging the public to refrain from vandalizing vital installations, as such destructive behaviour will be met with the full force of the law,” the sleuths agency warned.
