Six people have been killed and seven others injured following a road accident involving two lorries and a passenger bus along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway near Kapiti Plains in Machakos County.

The accident occurred at around 1:50 a.m. when a lorry travelling from Mombasa towards Nairobi reportedly collided with an oncoming one.

According to a police report, the impact caused the second lorry to lose control and crash head-on with a Tahmeed bus travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the first lorry and the bus driver died at the scene, alongside four passengers aboard the bus.

Seven passengers who sustained injuries were rushed to Machakos Level Five Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital mortuary pending post-mortem examinations, while the wreckage is being towed to Kyumbi Police Station as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
