Tenants at Taj Mall have begun vacating the building after fears of demolition became rife.

Authorities have since given the owner of the building up to August 30 to remove the structure even as he remains defiant that he will not budge.

A spot check by CitizenTV on Thursday morning revealed that most businesses within the premises were closed.

Some placed notices on their doors stating that they would be relocating and apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused.

The ongoing Nairobi demolitions have seen several buildings brought down including South End Mall, Java House and Shell Petrol Station in Kileleshwa as well as a section of Oshwal Centre in Parklands.

Authorities said they were constructed on riparian land, that according to the law, belongs to the public.
