Kenya Basketball Federation National League side Nairobi Thunder Wednesday defeated visiting South Sudanese top club Cobras Basketball 77-69 in a friendly match played at Nyayo Gymnasium.
The clash was curtain raised by another friendly match pitting the Twende Ladies team against a Nairobi Select Team where the latter won 44-42 in the electrifying basketball showdown.
Meanwhile, the Eliud Owalo Foundation Invitational Basketball Tournament was officially launched on Wednesday at Nyayo Gymnasium.
The tournament patron Eliud Owalo, who is also the Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary, emphasized that the championship would play a significant role in nurturing sporting talent.
The tournament will feature the top six teams in both the men’s and women’s of the Kenya Basketball Federation league and it will be done in collaboration with the Kenya Basketball Federation.
“The tournament is a way and means of promoting basketball. Such a tournament is a good nattering ground and a platform for players to showcase their talents.”
The event is scheduled to tip off on May 10 to 12 at Ulinzi Sports Complex and Nyayo Gymnasium.
