The cohort completed training in software development, cybersecurity, data analysis, AI readiness, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship. EldoHub Founder and CEO Chepkemoi Magdaline said the programs are designed to equip young people and entrepreneurs with practical skills that match the demands of Kenya’s evolving digital economy.
The graduation, which took place during the TechRun 2025 summit in Eldoret, comes against the backdrop of a significant national skills mismatch. A November 2025 study by BrighterMonday Kenya and the Mastercard Foundation found that 62.1% of employers report a disconnect between graduates’ abilities and industry needs, particularly in specialised tech roles.
Despite steady sector growth—Kenya’s ICT industry has expanded at an average of 10.8% annually since 2016—companies continue to face shortages of qualified professionals.
A 2025 SAP survey highlights the depth of the challenge: 86% of Kenyan businesses cited cybersecurity as their top skills gap, followed by cloud computing (79%) and AI-related expertise (43%). As a result, 78% of firms reported rising pressure on existing teams, while 72% said the talent shortage limits their capacity to take on new projects.
This year’s TechRun summit, themed “Accelerating Digital Transformation: From Endurance to Excellence,” showcased efforts by training institutions, innovators, investors, and development partners to strengthen the country’s digital workforce. UK High Commission Science, Innovation, Tech & Digital Counsellor Colin Sykes commended the graduates and encouraged them to apply their skills to real-world challenges. The UK–Kenya Tech Hub and other digital inclusion initiatives continue to support tech talent development across the region.
The event also spotlighted EldoHub’s NikoBiz entrepreneurship program, which has trained more than 800 entrepreneurs countrywide in business development, financial literacy, and enterprise growth.
TechRun 2025 — a three-day event combining athletics, technology, and innovation — drew more than 3,000 participants. Activities included an AI showcase and demo zone, investor pitching sessions, and the Digital Innovation Awards. The summit is organised by EldoHub in partnership with Athletics Kenya, the UK–Kenya Tech Hub, and the Uasin Gishu County Government.
