The government has announced that 12,704,548 Kenyans have registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA) as of Sunday, October 6.

SHA chairperson Abdi Mohammed said that the number includes the verified citizens who were under the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and have been transitioned.

Likewise, Mohamed added that a total of 1,442 contracted health facilities have already signed their contracts to offer SHA services to registered members.

These facilities include all contracted Level 2 to 6 health facilities and can be accessed on the sha.go.ke portal.

Mohamed further stated that following an engagement on Sunday, the Private and Faith-Based Hospitals Association has also agreed to sign and turn in their contracts by Tuesday.

He also clarified that all pending bills incurred under the NHIF will be paid after verification by a joint committee chaired by the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Medical Services.

Mohamed asserted that the authority is committed to ensure a seamless transition to the much-contested new health scheme to ensure Kenyans get quality healthcare services.

Registrations to the new scheme are still ongoing through dialing *147# or visit www.sha.go.ke or www.afyayangu.go.ke.

He further encouraged applicants to include their dependents for them to gain healthcare services.

Kenyans will now start making a 2.75% monthly contribution to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) from their salaries.
