Opposition calls out Ruto over high fuel prices, urges Kenyans to reject Finance Bill

Speaking at various functions locally and abroad, opposition leaders urged Kenyans to reject the Finance Bill 2026, accusing the government of introducing punitive tax measures that would further burden struggling households. 

Addressing supporters in Swindon, United Kingdom, DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua faulted President Ruto’s administration over the rising cost of living and soaring fuel prices.

“I can tell you for sure that the fuel prices are as a result of proxy companies used by William Ruto to profit from the Gulf crisis. Ruto now is more wealthy than Kenyatta and Moi families combined,” said Gachagua.

The former Deputy President accused the administration of overseeing corruption in key sectors of the economy, including the energy sector, which he claimed had worsened the economic burden on Kenyans.

“Ruto does not care if Kenyans are suffering. He is overseeing corruption in his government,” Gachagua stated.

Back home in Thika, Kiambu County, Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Kalonzo Musyoka also criticized the government, accusing it of failing to adequately address the fuel price crisis.

“This government has failed to cushion its citizens against the high cost of living and we will call it out,” said Kalonzo Musyoka.

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi echoed the criticism, blaming poor leadership for the increase in fuel prices.

“The hiked prices are as a result of poor leadership,” said Justin Muturi.

Kalonzo also called on Kenyans to turn out in large numbers in June to commemorate the deaths of Gen Z protesters during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill demonstrations.

“We will come out and honor the blood spilled during the liberation fight. We urge Kenyans to oppose the Finance Bill 2026,” Kalonzo said.

Meanwhile, speaking in Kiambu County during the graduation ceremony of students from Wanjohi Technical Institute at Kamuguga Polytechnic in Kabete, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa urged Kenyans to vote out the Kenya Kwanza administration in the 2027 General Election.

“We shall send this government home for poor governance,” said Wamalwa.
