The night was well attended and action packed. The opening fight card featured Brian Acholo versus Mlati (Welterweight) Abdi Beshr versus Edbilious Respectious (Super Flyweight) Arijan Goricki versus Hassan Ndonga (Featherweight) Sam Kogluk versus Otieno Owenge (Super middleweight) MArtin Achebi versus Mubaraka Sseguya (Welterweight) and headliners George Onyango versus Benjamin Mchunguzi (Super welterweight).
Boxing fans all over the country have been looking forward to the electrifying atmosphere following the success of the previous event.
Speaking with seven-time champion Abdi Beshr and winner of Super Flyweight, Beshr said: “I have the experience and I have the speed to last long in the ring… my opponent had more power but he didn’t have as much experience to last the full fight.”
Marvin Obuya, head of boxing at Kalakoda stated that: “the best part of putting this event together is how the fans turn up for the fights, I think that’s the best thing and it shows the love that the people have for the sport”
The main event did not disappoint as George Onyango defeated Benjamin Mchunguzi, crowning Onyango as King of the Super welterweight class in East and Central Africa.
Thrilling both the fans and the judges, the fight went the whole 10 rounds and a ton of heavy punches were traded between the two fighters.
Despite Mchunguzi’s shorter arm reach, the Tanzanian international put up a great fight against Onyango. Coming alive in the last four rounds impressively, showing no signs of fatigue.
Fans will definitely be on the lookout for boxing events not only for the thrill but for what it's doing for the growth of boxing in Kenya.
