The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has seized narcotics worth an estimated KSh 3 million following a coordinated crackdown in Juja, Kiambu County, as authorities intensify operations targeting drug trafficking during the festive season.

The daylight operation was conducted in the Backstreet area of Kimbo, Juja, a location identified by security agencies as a key drug distribution hub. The raid was jointly carried out by officers from NACADA, the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the National Police Service (NPS).

During the operation, officers arrested a suspected drug dealer, John Ndungu, while a second suspect identified only as Peter escaped and is currently being sought by police.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of more than 4,800 rolls of bhang (cannabis) and 75 sealed sachets of cannabis, all packaged for retail distribution. Investigators also seized transaction record books believed to detail sales worth millions of shillings, pointing to an extensive and well-organised trafficking network that is now under active investigation.

NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr Anthony Omerikwa said the Juja raid forms part of intensified festive season operations aimed at disrupting the supply and distribution of illicit drugs across the country.

“This operation marks the beginning of sustained crackdowns during the festive season. We are determined to dismantle drug networks that continue to harm our communities, and we will pursue traffickers relentlessly,” Dr Omerikwa said.

He also urged members of the public to work closely with authorities by reporting suspected drug-related activities, noting that community vigilance remains critical in the fight against narcotics.

“Suspicious movements, unusual activities at odd hours or unfamiliar traffic in residential areas should be reported. The public can confidentially reach us through the NACADA toll-free hotline 1192,” he added.

The seized drugs have been secured as exhibits, while investigations continue to trace the wider supply chain and arrest additional suspects.

The arrested suspect is expected to be arraigned on Monday to face drug trafficking charges.
