Commonwealth
Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala has played down claims that he is worn
down by fatigue after a busy European tour at the Diamond League Series.
Omanyala, who
tops this season’s Diamond League standings, has competed in three consecutive
legs of the series in Rabat, Florence and Paris.
He also took
part at the national championships last weekend.
“The most
important thing is to maintain and to work on it. My coach and the entire team
knows what they are doing and mine is to just turn up and perform. It is true I
have been to five different zones in one month and yes I was a bit fatigued but
now I will have the much needed rest before my next race,” said Omanyala who
ran 9.96 seconds to retain his national title.
At the same
time, Omanyala disclosed that he will compete at the Monaco Diamond League on
July 21 as his final build up race towards the World Championships to be held
in August in Budapest, Hungary.
“My next
competition will be the Monaco Diamond League where I have three weeks of hard
training after which I will embark on light training in readiness for World
Championships where we are not taking chances,” Omanyala said.
The reigning
Africa record holder says he is not surprised by his lead at the Diamond League
standings urging his fans to expect a good show in Budapest.
“We are all
humans and thus it is just in your mind. When I win that medal at the World
Championships people will talk about it and thus we are here to make history
and to make Kenya and Africa believe that everything is possible,” he said.
