Okutoyi, who is part of Team Kenya, believes the high-level competition at the games will be key as the country targets promotion from Group III to Group II.
The three-time Kenya Open champion has spent the last two months competing in France and Germany and says she's in great form and mentally prepared for the challenge.
“This isn’t my first time playing in Germany and France, but this time I competed on a different surface. I’ve adapted well, and I believe this tournament will be crucial in sharpening my game ahead of the Billie Jean King Cup,” said Okutoyi.
Currently seeded ninth at the FISU Games, the Auburn University student faces stiff competition from top players, including China’s Xinxin Yao and Russia’s Alevtina Ibragimova and Polina Latcenko.
Still, Okutoyi remains confident and focused.
“This is a high-caliber tournament featuring top university players from across the globe. It’s an honor to represent Kenya, and I’m taking it one match at a time. My goal is to go deep into the tournament,” she added.
Team Kenya coach Thuku Rogoi expressed confidence in the team's readiness.
“I’m satisfied with the preparations the players have undergone so far. They've shown commitment and are improving steadily,” he said.
The provisional women's team includes Cynthia Cheruto, Alicia Owegi, Stacy Yego, Melissa Mwakha, Selina Ahoya, and Nancy Kawira. The final squad of four will be named at the end of the month.
Kenya will also be represented in the boys’ category by Kael Shah, who recently featured for the Davis Cup team in Angola. Shah says he is eager for the challenge and is aiming to make a mark at the Games.
