“The trial of former Youth Affairs PS Lillian Omollo and 53 other accused persons charged in the Ksh.468million NYS scandal will start in January next year,” the statement reads.
DPP Noordin Jaji further noted that the court would not entertain any adjournments.
During the pre-trial hearing on June 6, the court adjourned after the defense argued that the prosecution was yet to serve the accused persons with relevant documents that the State would use to prove its case.
On June 20, the pre-trial hearing was postponed yet again after defense lawyers claimed that it was not ready for the proceedings.
Thursday’s statement however said the DPP has supplied the defense lawyers with all witness statements, exhibits and evidence it intends to use in the trial.
“Among those to testify include IFMIS officers from the National Treasury, bank officials, contractors and document examiners,” the statement reads.
Lillian Omollo and the other 53 suspects in the NYS scandal were charged on May 29, 2018. They however pleaded not guilty.
