Nyandarua Interfaith Council warns politicians against incitement ahead of Ol-Kalou by-election

Speaking on the sidelines of a peace meeting held at Tumaini PCEA Church, the Council under the leadership of Archbishop Josam Kariuki expressed concern that some political actors were arrogantly inciting locals against their opponents, warning that this could ignite "fire".

"We are saddened by the conduct of certain individuals who seem more interested in dividing us than bringing our people together. This must stop," the Archbishop said.

The meeting was organised to sensitise the local community on the need to embrace peace and cohesion ahead of the July 16 by-election, which will fill the seat left vacant following the death of area MP Davidi Njuguna Kiaraho in April this year.

The religious leaders also urged the youth in the constituency to steer clear of politicians who might incite them to cause chaos during the election period.

The race has attracted nine contenders, including candidates from the DCP, UDA and Jubilee parties.

DCP candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho has promised sweeping reforms, including direct disbursement of bursary funds to schools.

UDA's Samuel Muchina Nyagah has pledged diligent leadership and development for the constituency.

Jubilee Party is seeking to retain the seat previously held by former MP David Kiaraho, who was elected on a Jubilee ticket in the 2022 General Election.

People's Renaissance Movement candidate Timothy Kamau, who arrived at the IEBC offices riding on a donkey during the clearance exercise, has positioned himself as the face of a new political wave in the constituency.

Other candidates in the race include Edwin Muchiri (PNU), Stephen Wanyoike (National Liberal Party), Rachael Njoroge, Edward Mwaniki (Kenya Moja Movement), and Abdifatah Hussein (Federal Party of Kenya).

With the official campaign period underway, a fierce political battle is expected between UDA and DCP as both parties seek to prove their dominance in the Mt Kenya region.
