The race for an automatic promotion to the FKF Premier League has reached a boiling point, with the National Super League (NSL) witnessing three-way tie at the summit with only five matches left to play.

Joint leaders 3K FC, Migori Youth, and Mombasa United are all neck and neck, tied at 68 points after 33 matches, with the Embu-based side edging ahead by a +32 goal difference.

With a maximum of 15 possible points left to fight for, any slip-up now will mean the difference between top-flight football next season and another year in the second tier.

In the race, 3KFC are boasting a lethal frontline that has scored 55 goals this season.

Speaking on the team's mental state heading into the final stretch, the 3K head coach Nicodemus Omasete voiced full confidence.

“We are hoping for the best. Looking at how the table is structured; it is like we already have one foot inside. It is now about returning to focus heavily on these remaining matches, preparing very well, and ensuring we secure the points.”

The tactician also extended a rallying call to the fans club’s fans as the club seek promotion to the Kenya Premier League for the first time next season.

“To our fans, I am shouting out to you big time, turn up in large numbers. We love you. Keep pushing us, even for our away matches. When you turn up to push the team, the players feel it, and they will not let you down. We will perform well.”

Right on their heels are Nyanza heavyweights Migori Youth, sitting in second place with a +24 goal difference, though they enter the weekend looking to bounce back after a narrow 1-0 setback against Fortune Sacco.

Despite the pressure, Migori Youth head coach Sammy Otulo Owano remains upbeat about his squad's ability to achieve their season’s goal. "

“We got the chances... we will keep working on being clinical so that even if we get one chance, we convert it,” Owano noted.

Coast-based Mombasa United hold the third spot with +18 goal difference. Despite being third on goal difference, they have the highest number of wins in the league (22), signalling their relentless desire to bring Premier League football back to Mombasa.

Head coach Peter Okidi, who has injected fresh belief into the squad since taking charge, gave an absolute assurance to the coastal giants.

“My promise is that we are heading to the Kenya Premier League next season. My work is to stamp the final nail in the coffin.”

Lurking just outside the automatic slots are Equity Bank with 64 points and MOFA with 60 points, who remain mathematical threats if the top three stumble in the final sprint.

The upcoming Match week 34 weekend features high-stakes encounters that could immediately break the deadlock.

This Sunday 3K FC face a monumental test at home against fourth-placed Equity Bank while Migori Youth will look to capitalize on home advantage as they host a highly competitive showdown against league veterans Kibera Black Stars on Saturday.

Mombasa United face a tricky away trip to Wundanyi to play a desperate Mwatate United on Sunday.

Okidi remains highly focused on the away derby. “We know it’s a derby—we will get there prepared and I am sure we will get the maximum points. Our mentality must be positive regardless of our opponent's position in the league.”

As the battle for promotion heats up, a dark cloud of anxiety hangs over the bottom of the table, where the relegation dogfight is equally unforgiving.

Mwatate United currently anchor the log at 20th place with 25 points, closely preceded by Vihiga United on 26 points and MCF FC (27 points), while Darajani Gogo sit just above them in 17th with 28 points.

With four teams separated by three points in the drop zone, the relegation battle goes down to the wire.
