Migori Youth FC striker Syphas Otieno is determined to
bounce back quickly after being sidelined by injury, even as he remains the top
scorer in the National Super League (NSL).
Speaking to Citizen Digital, the prolific forward revealed his
frustration after missing two crucial matches, as the Golden Boot and league
title races heat up.
“I am trying so hard to be back by next weekend because my
closest challenger scored two goals at the weekend to equal my tally," Otieno
said.
His absence has allowed Fortune Sacco’s Collins Mwangi to
draw level with 17 goals, intensifying the battle for the league’s top scorer
accolade.
Despite this, Otieno remains optimistic, expressing
confidence that he will recover quickly and return to action to continue his
fine form.
The injury occurred during Migori Youth’s 1-0 defeat to
Mwatate United, where his absence was keenly felt.
Despite the setback, Otieno remains optimistic about his
team’s ambitions.
Migori Youth sit just three points behind league leaders
Mombasa United, keeping their title hopes alive.
"The team is intact, nothing has changed in my
absence. I am the one missing out because I am chasing the Golden Boot.
However, I believe we will emerge as champions at the end of the season,” he
added.
Otieno urges his teammates to stay focused for the decisive run-in, confident that his eventual return will be key as Migori Youth push for promotion and a shot at the title.
