The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested
an auditor attached to the North Rift Valley Development Water Agency over
allegations of soliciting and receiving a Ksh.400,000 bribe from a contractor
in exchange for a favourable audit report.
According to EACC, the arrest
followed a complaint lodged by a contractor who alleged that the auditor - Michael
Maleya Omondi - had demanded money to influence the outcome of an ongoing audit
exercise.
Following the complaint, EACC
investigators mounted an operation in Eldoret and arrested Omondi after he
allegedly received Ksh.400,000 from the complainant.
The suspect was subsequently
taken to the EACC North Rift Regional Office, where he was processed before
being released on a cash bail of Ksh.100,000 pending the completion of
investigations.
The commission said the matter
remains under investigation and that appropriate action will be taken upon
conclusion of the probe.
