The residents have been spending a lot of time marveling at the tarmac – after having endured poor roads for decades.
Many have been trooping to the road to take pictures and document what they consider an important part of history.
“Some of us in this village have never seen or touched a tarmacked road. This is very good news for the village because it will open up this area to new opportunities and allow development,” said David Nyaga, a resident of South Ngariama.
“Our people have over the years found it difficult to transport farm produce to the market because of the bad roads. That has now changed and we are very happy,” added Nyaga.
The tarmac connects the semi-arid area of South Ngariama to PIAI shopping centre which sits along the Embu-Mwea Highway.
The road is expected to benefit traders, miraa farmers and boda boda riders in the area.
