Muthangari Drive is already up there with the rest of the high-end neighbourhoods in Nairobi.

It’s profile – however – has recently received an important shot on the arm following the ongoing construction of a modern footpath.

Apart from the aesthetics – pedestrians using the stretch in Nairobi’s Westlands area will be able to walk without risking life and limb on the main road.

According to some of the residents who spoke to Wananchi Reporting, construction of the walkway that runs parallel to the narrow stretch is ongoing.

The stretch connects the James Gichuru road to Waiyaki Way from the lower bosom of the highway.

Major offices and property are located along the drive – including the Ushuru Pension Plaza where the Large Taxpayers Office (LTO) is housed, The Address, and a wide range of residential properties.

Residents says that the stretch has not had a proper walkway – save for a few select patches.

“The road is very narrow at certain points. This makes it very difficult for people on foot to walk without risking their lives,” said Philemon Kioko, a mason who frequently uses the stretch.

“Most of the time you have to walk on the main road which can be dangerous because it is used by matatus, personal cars and bodada,” he said.

The stretch is mostly used by office and manual workers who work in offices located along the stretch.

It also serves as a dependable shortcut for pedestrians looking to save time and energy.

According to the residents, the road is busy in the mornings, during lunchtime, and in the evening when many people are returning home from work.
