With leaders Nairobi Water Queens and second-placed Ulinzi Sharks not in action this weekend, third-placed National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) aim to seize the opportunity and improve their standings on the log when they face Daystar Falcons on Saturday in the only Kenya Ladies Handball League match of the weekend.

Daystar Falcons head into the match on the back of a heavy 37-12 defeat to league leaders Nairobi Water Queens last weekend.

They will, however, be keen to bounce back and overturn their recent poor run, setting up what is expected to be a tough encounter for both sides.

According to Daystar Falcons head coach Martin Kamau, poor shooting was their biggest undoing against Nairobi Water Queens.

“The match did not go as we had wished, but we are still targeting a top-three finish after ending last season in fourth place. We lost to a better side because they are former champions,” rued the coach.

“We also need to work on our shooting. Our precision in front of goal was not accurate, and we ended up wasting so many chances. We also need to improve our scoring because the goal difference was much bigger than expected. However, I am confident the ladies will bounce back because we are here to compete,” underscored the coach.

Kamau added that they have worked on the small details they missed in the previous match.

“Our transition play was a bit poor both in defence and attack. We looked lighter, and I don’t know why we were overpowered while our opponents looked stronger. Whenever we lost possession, there was an immediate turnover, and when tracking back they were faster than us,” noted Kamau.

Nairobi Water Queens and Ulinzi Sharks are closely battling at the summit of the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) Women’s Premier League standings, with the former leading on 18 points, just one above the latter after nine rounds of matches.

Meanwhile, the men’s league will be in action from Saturday through Monday as the competition enters Round 15.
