Narok West residents stranded as bridge washed away, call for action as schools reopen

The bridge, which previously served as a vital transport and communication link, was washed away following heavy flooding along the Sigowet River. Since then, residents say they have been cut off from essential services, markets, and neighboring communities, forcing many to take longer, more dangerous alternative routes.
Locals note that the situation has become increasingly dire as schools prepare to reopen for the second term. Parents and guardians fear for the safety of children who are now required to cross the swollen river or navigate unsafe makeshift crossings to get to school.
Farmers, who rely on the route to transport produce to markets, say the рoor infrastructure has also dealt a significant blow to their income, with some unable to move goods efficiently.
Residents are now urging authorities to prioritize the reconstruction of the bridge, emphasizing that restoring the link would not only improve safety but also revive economic activity and reconnect the affected communities.
