The accident occurred near the Amco area in Arimi, Molo Sub-county, when the trailer reportedly veered off the road before plunging onto the bridge, killing all occupants on the spot.
Police confirmed that the victims included the driver and two other men, however the identities of the deceased have not yet been established due to the severity of the injuries sustained in the crash.
"The lorry was transporting trees and the trees fell on them," Samuel Wainaina.
Their bodies were taken to the Molo Sub-county Hospital mortuary for preservation and further investigations.
Residents and road users have termed the bridge as a black spot, citing numerous fatal accidents in the past. Last year alone, at least 12 people lost their lives at the same spot under similar circumstances.
Locals have accused the government of failing to implement adequate safety measures despite repeated appeals. They are now calling for the urgent installation of street lighting, clear road markings, and protective barriers along the bridge to prevent further loss of life.
The accident has once again renewed calls for government intervention, with residents recalling earlier assurances by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki that the bridge would be upgraded to enhance road safety.
Police have launched investigations into the cause of the accident.
