Nakuru governor calls residents to exercise caution following Menengai crater fire

The fire engulfed sections of Menengai's Bahati forest, Gilgil's Eburru forest, and Rongai Sub-county's Koibatek forest.

In a statement issued on Monday, Nakuru county governor Lee Kinyanjui said that they are working with government agencies to put out the fire, which has been difficult to put out due to climatic conditions.

"We are working with Kenya Forest Service and National Government agencies to contain the fires. We, however, note the challenge posed by the strong winds and dry weather in containing the fires," said Governor Kinyanjui.

"At Menengai Crater Forest, we have dispatched fire engines, water tankers and graders to make fire breaks."

He, however, noted that the outbreak destroyed forest vegetation across Nakuru County, further assuring residents of their concerted efforts to put out the fires.
