Nairobi United’s push to build momentum and complete a
league double over Kakamega Homeboyz ended in a dramatic 2-2 draw at Kasarani
Stadium, in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL)match that lived up to its pre-game billing.
Coming into the clash on the back of a morale-boosting 3-0
win over Shabana, Nairobi United showed flashes of promise but were once again
left grappling with inconsistency.
Kakamega Homeboyz, who had targeted revenge after losing the
reverse fixture, made a strong start with Oliver Machaka opening the scoring in
the 14th minute. Naibois responded through Michael Karamor, who leveled matters
in the 28th minute.
Machaka, however, proved decisive once again before the
break, completing his brace in the 40th minute to hand Homeboyz a 2-1 halftime
lead.
Despite the setback, Nairobi United returned with renewed
urgency in the second half. Defender Mustapha Kizza stepped up in the 70th
minute to restore parity, ensuring the hosts salvaged a point from an
end-to-end contest.
The result highlights Nairobi United’s fighting spirit but
also underscores their struggle for consistency, having now managed mixed
results in recent outings.
They remain seventh on 39 points from 27 matches as the race
for a strong finish intensifies.
For Kakamega Homeboyz, the draw extends their steady run but
may feel like a missed opportunity after twice taking the lead.
They remain firmly in the top three with 46 points, keeping their ambitions alive in the title chase.
