Residents in Nairobi have urged police officers to heighten patrols in order to tame cases of robberies.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, locals said the move will help bring to book those involved in criminal activities.

"There are some streets in the Central Business District that I avoid in fear of being robbed," a resident said.

Locals added that with police presence, the cases reduce significantly, handing them a temporary relief.

In the latest incident, a suspected robber had to seek refuge in a pool of water in Lower Hill area after he was cornered by members of the public.

The middle aged man is said to have been part of a gang robbing road users of their valuables in broad daylight.

"He spent two hours in water to escape the wrath of residents baying for his blood," a witness told Citizen Digital.

This came moments before he was accosted by a group of bodaboda riders along Haile Selassie Avenue, prompting him to flee on foot.

“The group was domiciled along Uhuru Highway, robbing road users of their valuables,” one of the bodaboda riders said.

With nowhere to run, the suspect jumped into the pool before police came to his rescue.

Anti-riot police dispersed a crowd that had gathered before arresting the suspect.
