A section of Nairobi Members of County Assembly has called for lifestyle audits on all Chief Officers and county government employees following the arrest of Nairobi Chief Officer for Planning, Patrick Analo Akivaga, by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Led by Korogocho MCA Absalom Odhiambo, Ngei Ward MCA Redson Onyango and Landimawe MCA Simon Maina Mugo, the MCAs said they will push for the audits once the County Assembly resumes sittings.

The ward representatives expressed concern over allegations facing Akivaga, whom they accused of facilitating illegal construction within the city. They argued that corruption and weak oversight within key county departments have contributed to poor service delivery and unplanned developments in Nairobi.

The MCAs further raised concerns over the more than Ksh.80 billion allocated to Nairobi County by the national government, saying public funds risk being mismanaged if accountability measures are not strengthened.

Their remarks come moments after the anti-graft agency arrested Akivaga and reportedly recovered Ksh.65.3 million in cash from his residence in Syokimau.

The commission also said it seized title deeds, motor vehicle logbooks and electronic devices as part of its investigations.

The MCAs maintained that stronger scrutiny of senior county officials is necessary to restore public confidence and ensure resources meant for development are utilized for the benefit of Nairobi residents.
