Nairobi has this week hosted the first-ever global convening of the International Council of Beverages Associations (ICBA) held in Africa, bringing together more than 100 executives and industry associations from across the world.

The high-level meeting marked a major milestone for the global non-alcoholic beverage sector as ICBA formally acknowledged the launch of its regional arm, ICBA Africa, amid growing interest in African markets.

Representatives from companies and associations operating in over 200 countries attended the conference, underscoring Africa’s rising significance in the global beverage industry and the sector’s long-term investment priorities on the continent.

Speaking during the conference, ICBA Africa Executive Director Iddah Asin said Africa’s non-alcoholic beverage industry continues to play a key role in the continent’s economic growth.

“Africa's non-alcoholic beverage sector contributes more than $120 billion to the continent's economies and supports millions of jobs across agriculture, manufacturing, retail and distribution,” she said.

Asin added that hosting the conference in Nairobi presented an opportunity to deepen partnerships and showcase the continent’s dynamic beverage sector.

“I am so proud to have welcomed colleagues to my hometown of Nairobi as we work to deepen our partnerships, highlight Africa's dynamic and unique beverage sector, and unlock opportunities for future growth,” she stated.

ICBA Executive Director Kate Loatman said the launch of ICBA Africa would strengthen dialogue between industry players, policymakers and stakeholders.

“ICBA Africa expands ICBA’s global and regional platforms for constructive dialogue across industry, policymakers and other stakeholders, to support inclusive, evidence-based and forward-looking policy outcomes,” she noted.

Loatman noted that industry expertise would remain crucial in shaping solutions that benefit both consumers and communities.
