Mwanambeyu Girls dare to dream; spoil for football fight at National School Games

Kwale County representatives at the forthcoming Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Mwanambeyu Girls High School have fired a warning shot to their rivals as the competition gears for kick-off in Kakamega on Tuesday

‎Having qualified for the national school games for the first time in football, the coastal region team is ready to face any team and deliver good results in girls' football.

‎Speaking to Citizen Digital, school’s team coach Joseph Oyoo, said the achievement is as a result of the players’ hard work and the excellent leadership of the principal.

‎"We have come a long way to where we are. This achievement has not been easy, we have beaten big teams along the way because of the unwavering support from the school principal, dedication and hard work from players and the technical bench," said Oyoo.

‎Mwanambeyu Girls will face a tough challenge which they must overcome in Pool B — a group stacked with heavyweights including Madira from Western, Dagoretti Mixed from Nairobi, and Kobala from Nyanza.

‎Mwambeyu will play their first-ever match at the national school games against seasoned side Dagoretti Mixed on Tuesday, August 29, when the games officially begin in Western region.

‎The competition will feature eight teams divided into two pools. Pool A has Butere Girls (Western 1), Ruiru High (Central), Dr. Charles (Eastern), and Nasokol Girls (Rift Valley). Pool B features Madira Girls (Western 2), Dagoretti Mixed (Nairobi), Kobala (Nyanza), and Mwanambeyu Girls (Coast).

‎Match action kicks off on Tuesday with Butere facing Dr. Charles and Ruiru taking on Nasokol at 10am. Later on at 2pm, Madira will square it off against Kobala while Dagoretti battle Mwanambeyu.

‎The second day of the tournament, Wednesday, will see Mwanambeyu play Madira and Kobala take on Dagoretti from 10am, Ruiru will also clash with Dr. Charles while Butere face Nasokol in other morning fixtures.

‎On Thursday, group matches will conclude with Ruiru meeting Butere and Dr. Charles going up against Nasokol. Madira will challenge Dagoretti, while Kobala meets Mwanambeyu, all matches scheduled for 10am.
