Musokoto, Chakol Queens eye Western Region Chapa Dimba titles

In the girls’ final, Chakol Queens will take on Lugari Progressive after beating Vihiga’s Blue Commandos 3-1 in the semi-finals.

Musokoto booked their place in the boys’ final with a convincing 3-0 victory over Kakamega’s Green Buffaloes.

The Busia side made a flying start, taking the lead in the second minute when Galvin Mukolwe calmly converted a penalty after Peter Franklin Pual was penalised for handball.

Musokoto continued to press for a second and were rewarded in the 52nd minute when Frankline Paul doubled their advantage.

Green Buffaloes had a chance to reduce the deficit after being awarded a penalty, but Oliver Osinya missed from the spot.

Musokoto capitalised on the reprieve, with Tom Okitwi scoring in the 77th minute to seal a comfortable victory and send the Kakamega side out of the competition.

“I am happy with today’s win. We played according to our game plan, and we hope to do the same when we meet Vihiga Cranes tomorrow in the final. This is our first time reaching the regional final, and we are determined to take the trophy back to Busia,” said Musokoto head coach Nicholas Okubala.

In the other boys’ semi-final, Vihiga Cranes edged Bungoma’s Terem 1-0, with Mellon Omondi scoring the decisive goal to secure their place in the final.

Lugari Progressive reached the girls’ final after a dominant 4-0 win over Bungoma’s Elgon Queens. Laura Lydia, Ziporah Wanyonyi, Delphine Mutirira and Viola Chepkorir were on target for Lugari.

Chakol Queens completed the girls’ final line-up with a 3-1 victory over Blue Commandos. Michel Nasimiyu scored twice, while Hanifa Mashasha added the third for the Busia side. Mitchel Chepteek scored Blue Commandos’ consolation goal.

“Last season, we were knocked out in the semi-finals. This year, we are glad to have made it to the final. I know Lugari Progressive is a tough team, but we will play our game just as we did today. The girls are determined to lift this trophy for the first time and represent the region at the national championship,” said Chakol Queens head coach Abraham Muleme.

The boys’ and girls’ champions will each receive KSh250,000 and qualify to represent the Western Region at the national finals. The runners-up will each pocket KSh150,000.

The Best Goalkeeper and Top Scorer in both the boys’ and girls’ categories will each receive KSh30,000, while the Most Valuable Player (Golden Ball) will also earn KSh30,000 and a fully funded tertiary education scholarship under the Safaricom Citizens of the Future Programme.
