Speaking at the National Police College in Embakasi, Nairobi, CS Murkomen opined that officers must be equipped with appropriate training to avoid being influenced by dissenting persons.
He said that newly recruited General Service Unit (GSU) officers will undergo training to help them navigate chaotic incidents like protests and other violent scenarios.
“You will be trained on crowd management, which is now one of our top security concerns, and on how to use force in the correct way. We have seen cases of police brutality reduce in recent years," he said.
"This GSU-recruited team being trained will help in the current situation where political leaders have become the greatest threat to our security, using goons of your age to cause chaos in the name of gangs. In the last three years since Gen Z protests, the issue has escalated. That behavior has led to redesigning and retooling the training that you are undergoing to serve the nation better."
He added that the training will also polish the officers' skills in conduct and allegiance to protecting the nation since "last time during Gen Z protests, activists recruited police to be content creators, abusing even the government".
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja added that the security force will support the recruits through their training to ensure that they can best handle any emerging security issues.
CS Murkomen has recently condemned the rise of politically linked violence, calling for the deployment of a special police team to tame goons across the country.
“Time for talking is over. I have told the Inspector General to send a special team to come here and sweep away those gangs. They are harming people here in Trans Nzoia,” he said, speaking in Trans Nzoia county on Sunday.
