Former Gor Mahia captain Kenneth Muguna has weighed in on
the debate surrounding the state of the pitch at Wang’uru Stadium in Mwea,
following K’Ogalo’s 1-0 loss to Tusker in the FKF Premier League.
The match, which proved costly for Gor Mahia in the title
race, sparked criticism from the club’s technical bench over the playing
surface, with concerns raised about its condition.
However, Muguna has taken a different stance, arguing that
title-winning teams must adapt to all conditions and focus on results rather
than excuses.
Taking to social media, the midfielder said champions are
expected to perform regardless of venue or pitch quality.
“Champions play anywhere, whether it is a hostile ground, a
poor surface or a long trip away from home,” he wrote.
He added that success in the league has previously come in
challenging environments, insisting that mentality is key in such situations.
“I have won league titles in places like Narok, Kinoru,
Awendo, Muhoroni, Chemelil and Thika,” he noted.
Muguna, who has lifted the FKF Premier League title with Gor
Mahia and recently Kenya Police, clarified that he was not supporting poor playing
conditions but stressed that complaints should come after securing a result.
“I am not advocating for bad pitches, but you win first, then you can complain after,” he added.
