The win gives Mombasa United a narrow advantage heading into the second leg, scheduled for Nairobi on Tuesday, October 6. However, Moallin says his players must step up their preparations ahead of the decisive encounter.
The coach described Kariobangi Sharks as a dangerous side and warned his players against assuming that promotion has already been secured.
“We have won the first leg, but the job is not yet finished. We have to forget about this result and concentrate on preparing well for the second leg in Nairobi. We cannot afford to celebrate too early because Kariobangi Sharks are a strong team, and we expect a tough match.”
Moallin also expressed his delight at securing his first competitive victory on Kenyan soil, while thanking Mombasa United supporters for turning up in large numbers and providing the team with motivation.
“I want to thank our fans for the support they gave us. They created a good environment for the start of the new KPL league. We need them to continue believing in the team and supporting us as we prepare for the second leg. We will give our best to make sure we achieve our goal," the coach added.
“I am happy about this because it is my first competitive match on Kenyan soil.”
Meanwhile, Mombasa United midfielder Christian Lubulu believes the team can complete the job by securing another victory in the return leg in Nairobi.
“We worked very hard for this win from day one, and we thank God for it. We were not distracted by what was going on about our promotion, but we stood firm and continued to work hard. I am sure we will still win the second leg.”
