The stalemate saw United maintain second place on the standings with 72 points, staying two points ahead of third-placed 3K FC in the tightly contested promotion race.
The hosts started brightly, with Christian Ziggah and Kevin Okoth creating early opportunities inside the opening 15 minutes, but neither could find the breakthrough.
3K FC also threatened through Ian Owiti and Mark Kithome as both sides pushed forward in an end-to-end opening half.
The visitors quickly settled into the game and nearly stunned the home crowd when Oscar Juma unleashed a powerful 17-yard strike that forced a brilliant save from Mombasa United goalkeeper Kavin Tila. The rebound fell kindly to Kithome, whose effort rattled the top bar.
Moments later, 3K FC came close again through Ian Owiti, whose curling 20-yard free-kick struck the side post.
Mombasa United gradually regained control in the closing stages of the first half, but failed to capitalise on their chances as the teams headed into the break locked at 0-0.
The introduction of James Onyango and Clinton Odiwuor at the start of the second half injected fresh energy into the hosts. Odiwuor and Kevin Okoth both tested 3K FC goalkeeper Emmanuel Kulwa with long-range efforts, but the shot-stopper remained equal to the task.
In the 68th minute, substitute Alex Mwalimu thought he had given the visitors the lead with a close-range tap-in after another superb save from Tila, but the assistant referee ruled the goal out for offside, silencing the away fans’ celebrations.
Mwalimu continued to trouble the United defence and later delivered a dangerous cross that found Amir Ndune, whose header narrowly missed the target.
Despite late pressure from the home side in search of a winning goal, neither team could break the deadlock as the match ended goalless.
Speaking after the final whistle, Mombasa United head coach Peter Okidi admitted his side had hoped for maximum points but welcomed the result against a strong opponent.
“We wanted three points but we got one point. We knew it would be a hard match since we were playing against a team that is eying promotion to the KPL. The first half was not on our side but in the second half we played well and created a lot of chances, though we were unlucky,” said Okidi.
On his part, 3K FC coach Mourice Ochieng praised his team’s performance and resilience.
“The weather was another opponent, but we played well against a strong side. We knew it would be difficult and we came prepared,” he said.
