With a rise in cases of robbery and banditry along the Lodwar-Kitale road, a missionary from Restoration Harvest Mission has decided to walk 367km from Lodwar, Turkana county,  to Eldoret in Uasin Gishu county in a campaign to call for an end to insecurity.

Rev Dr Malcolm Lochodo said he aims to preach to those living along the border of Pokot and Turkana in Kalemorok, Kaakong, Kainuk and Lami nyeusi villages about the importance of peace and good  neighbourliness.

Turkana and Pokot communities have always been in conflict due to scarce water, pasture and land. This has led to several deaths.

Lochodo started his journey in Lokichar, Turkana South, on Saturday morning.

Kaakong KWS and Kainuk areas have been volatile areas where bandits hide in thickets and target vehicles and pedestrians.

Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomurukai who was present during his flagging off ceremony, urged bandits to surrender their arms to the government and focus on development.

Lochodo is expected to pass through three counties - West Pokot, Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu and is expected to reach his destination next week on Friday.

In the past three months, 18 people have been shot dead, more than 20 people injured,4 four vehicles torched and several animals stolen by bandits.
