Missing activist Boniface Mulinge Muteti found alive in Mlolongo

Speaking to Citizen TV, Muteti's brother confirmed that the activist had been rushed to Lifecare Hospital in Mlolongo. 

Further, Human rights activist and Vocal Africa CEO Hussein Khalid revealed that Mulinge was found dumped in the Lukenya area in the early hours of Friday before he walked to a Shell petrol station, where he sought help to contact his family.

He added that Muteti was found around 3:00 am.

"Comrade Muteti Mulinge has been found. He was dumped last night around 3:00 am in the Lukenya area. He had to walk a long distance to a Shell petrol station where he got a good Samaritan who helped him with a phone to call his brother," Khalid stated. 

"He is disoriented, weak and injured. He is currently receiving treatment at Sanel Hospital in Mlolongo area. Family, friends and comrades are proceeding there."

His whereabouts had remained unknown since Monday, September 21, when he reportedly went missing after leaving fellow activists in Nairobi's Central Business District to print a petition they intended to present to police and other government offices.

According to his family, Muteti had last communicated with his colleagues shortly before his phone became unreachable.

The disappearance prompted his family and human rights defenders to report the matter to police and seek urgent intervention to establish his whereabouts.

On Thursday, a petition was filed at the Milimani Law Courts seeking orders compelling Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations Mohammed Amin to account for Muteti's whereabouts.

The petition sought, among other orders, the disclosure of Muteti's whereabouts and records relating to his alleged arrest, custody, transfer, release or processing.

The court action followed claims by activists that Muteti had been arrested during the protests. Police have not publicly confirmed that Muteti was in their custody.

Muteti's disappearance came amid demonstrations by activists calling for the release of Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye, who remains in detention in Uganda.

The circumstances surrounding Muteti's disappearance and his reported discovery in Lukenya have yet to be established.
