Migori Youth are on the brink of National Super League (NSL)
glory after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kisumu All Stars in a
Matchday 36 encounter played on Monday.
The crucial win leaves Migori Youth needing just one more
victory to clinch the NSL title and earn automatic promotion to the 2026/27FKF
Premier League.
Striker Syphas Otieno emerged as the hero of the day,
scoring the only goal of the match to keep his side firmly in control of the title
race.
Speaking to Citizen
Digital, Otieno expressed delight at helping the team edge closer to a
historic achievement, with Migori Youth now requiring only three more points to
be officially crowned champions.
"It has been an important win with a vital goal for
me. I now have 20 goals in the league ahead of our next match against Equity,
of which we only need to win to be crowned NSL champions," Otieno charged.
The race for promotion also intensified as 3K FC registered
an entertaining 3-2 win over Talanta FC. The result keeps their promotion hopes
alive, with the club now just two victories away from securing a place in the
top flight next season.
At Sudi Stadium, Nzoia Sugar returned to winning ways with
a convincing 3-1 triumph over Fortune Sacco. Head coach Charles Odero lauded
his players for executing the tactical instructions given before the match,
which proved decisive in securing the victory.
"We have faced Fortune Sacco several times and their
style of play has not changed. They play long balls and force opponents to make
mistakes in their half. So I told my players to force them into our game and
deny them the chance to play their usual system," Odero observed.
Elsewhere, Kibera Black Stars and MOFA shared the spoils in
a 1-1 draw. Kibera Black Stars coach Iddi Badi described the contest as evenly
balanced but lamented his team's inability to convert several clear-cut
chances.
Mombasa United's promotion ambitions suffered a major blow
after they fell 1-0 to Luanda Villa. The defeat leaves them facing an uphill
battle in their quest to secure a place in next season's Premier League.
Meanwhile, Mwatate United were officially relegated from
the NSL after failing to honour their fixture against MCF. The forfeited match
confirmed the club's drop from the second tier.
With only two rounds of fixtures remaining, Migori Youth
sit comfortably at the summit of the table with 77 points. They hold a
four-point advantage over second-placed 3K FC and a five-point lead over
third-placed Mombasa United, placing them in a strong position to complete
their journey to the Premier League.
