So, who were the brazen abductors captured on camera abducting Standard Group Associate Editor Alex Kiprotich?

Citizen TV Investigations have established that a shadowy unit within the National Police Service (NPS) was involved and is reputed to target government critics. 

Citizen TV has established that the brazen abduction involved officers attached to a powerful unit under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

This unit, known as the Operations Support Unit (OSU), was formed in late 2022 after the disbandment of the Special Service Unit (SSU), which had been accused of abducting two foreign nationals.

Following the Gen Z protests, OSU’s mandate shifted to no longer targeting organized crime, but government critics.

Their chain of command bypasses ordinary policing structures, reporting only to the DCI boss, the Deputy Inspector General, and a senior state officer.

Adding to the intrigue is the involvement of a retired officer with deep police connections, contracted in a manner reminiscent of the infamous Artur brothers saga - civilians granted extraordinary police powers outside the official rank and file. 

The abducted editor Alex Kiprotich was ferried between at least four police stations; Ritchfield Police Station, Hazina Police Station, and Industrial Police Station, but was never booked. Officers refused to record his entry, declining to provide their force numbers. 

This is not just an abduction. It is a test of accountability in a police force where shadow units operate beyond the law. 

The unanswered questions remain: Who authorized this operation? Why were booking procedures deliberately bypassed? And how deep does the chain of command run in shielding such covert actions?
