Police officers in Kuria West, Migori County, are pursuing two remandees who escaped from custody at the Kehancha Police Station.

Kuria West sub-county Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said the duo, identified as Nicholas Mohabe Chacha and Veronica Marwa, escaped from the police cell at around 3am on Friday.

The police boss said Chacha had been charged with manslaughter while Marwa was charged with theft.

Mr. Kimaiyo said a police officer who heard a commotion inside the cell rushed to open it to find out what was happening, only to be overpowered by the two.

He said several police officers rushed to the scene but, unfortunately, they could not salvage the situation.

He further added that one police officer sustained injuries as they were trying to corner the two escapees.

Mr. Kimaiyo said a manhunt is underway for the two remandees who are still at large.
