Migori Youth tactician Salim Babu is confident his side will secure its first win of the season when they face Shabana on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in the FKF Premier League South Nyanza derby at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru.
The newcomers will be seeking maximum points after opening their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Kenya Police before settling for a second consecutive draw, a goalless stalemate against Mathare United, last weekend. With the match scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m., Babu said he has worked on his striking department, which he identified as an area of concern in their previous matches.
“Our aim was to win our last match against Mathare, but our opponents were very tough and would not allow any goal into their net. The result is behind us now, and our focus is on beating Shabana. I know it is a derby and a tough one, but we will fight for the three points,” said Babu.
“In the last match, we created many chances, but our forwards failed to convert them. That is something we need to improve ahead of the South Nyanza derby. I also thank our fans, who turned up in large numbers at Awendo Stadium for the last match. It is my hope that they will travel to Nakuru to extend their support and motivate the boys.”
Babu’s sentiments were echoed by defender Maxwel Odada, who believes the team must be more clinical in front of goal to secure victory.
“We are hoping for a win against Shabana on Thursday. I think we lost two points in our last fixture due to the heavy rains in Awendo, but I thank God that we managed to play under the harsh conditions and finished the match without any injuries. As the coach has said, we need to convert our chances ahead of the Shabana match. That is the only way to win the game and restore confidence in the team,” said Odada.
Elsewhere, Thursday’s fixtures will see Mathare United welcome Tusker at Embu Stadium, while Kenya Police host Ulinzi Starlets in the Maafande Derby at Police Sacco Stadium.
Six matches are scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, with Bandari hosting Posta Rangers at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.
Kakamega Homeboyz will host Gor Mahia at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, while 3K will look to continue their winning run when they travel to the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay to face APS Bomet.
KCB will host newcomers Mombasa United at Police Sacco Stadium, while Murang’a Seal will face Nairobi United at SportPesa Stadium in Murang’a.
In Narok, Mara Sugar will host AFC Leopards at the William Ole Ntimama Stadium.
Gor Mahia remain top of the league standings with nine points, while 3K, Mara Sugar, AFC Leopards and Shabana complete the top five, with each side having five points.
