Jubilee Party Leader Dr. Fred Matiang'i has urged his colleagues in the opposition to unite and form a formidable team that will battle it out with President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a church service in Nairobi, Matiang'i said the ideal way to give Ruto a challenge will be if opposition leaders work as a team and come up with a winning formula.

"I urge my colleagues in the opposition to come together, work together and find an alternative if we want to form the next government," Matiang'i said.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary added that Kenya is headed the wrong direction under the leadership of Ruto, saying a change of leadership will turn things around.

His sentiments were echoed by leaders who accompanied him during the service, among them former CS Ezekiel Machogu and Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi.

Matiang'i also condemned a section of youth heckling outside the church, accusing some leaders in Nairobi for organising the hecklers.

"I'm a very straight-forward and no nonsense person. Under my leadership this kind of nonsense will not happen. We need tolerance and peace to go about our activities without interruption," Matiang'i said.

The Jubilee Party Leader has declared his intention to vie for the presidency, but so have his colleagues in the opposition like Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

However, there have been calls for the opposition to pick and support a suitable candidate to run against Ruto.
