Speaking during the MSK Annual Conference in Mombasa, industry leaders outlined a shift toward data-driven strategies and consumer trust as essential drivers for navigating current economic pressures.
MSK Chairperson Zuhura Odhiambo emphasized that organic growth can no longer be taken for granted in today’s environment.
"Growth cannot be assumed. It has to be designed—around a deeper understanding of the customer, a clear value proposition, and the ability to connect creativity, technology, and commercial outcomes," Odhiambo stated.
Echoing these remarks, Konza Technopolis Development Authority CEO John Paul Okwiri urged delegates to leverage evolving technologies to design data-backed growth strategies.
"Don't just design campaigns. Design growth. Design with evidence but leave room for imagination," Okwiri advised.
Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei reinforced this perspective, noting that marketers must view themselves as demand architects overseeing the complete customer journey rather than simple product communicators.
"Growth by design is the opposite of growth by luck. The society needs marketers who think like designers of growth, not just communicators of products," Chepkemei asserted, while highlighting that "trust is no longer simply a brand metric; it is increasingly a growth asset".
The conference also highlighted the role of emerging technology, with Nendo Founder Mark Kaigwa urging attendees to integrate Artificial Intelligence beyond basic applications to accelerate research and prototyping, while cautioning that technology must be paired with local cultural understanding and human judgment.
Additionally, experts from JaaSify Technology and the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority advocated for transitioning from mass audience targeting to hyper-personalization, urging the profession to measure success through tangible metrics like customer retention and sales conversions rather than social media visibility alone.
