Man’s body found dumped near water drainage channel in Athi River

At the Athi River-Namanga Road Interchange, business came to a standstill on Monday afternoon as residents and motorists glanced at a body dumped near a water drainage channel on the busy highway.

The news of the discovery of the body with a deep cut by a herder spread like fire in the area following reports of the abductions of four men from Mlolongo, two who were found dead and two are still missing.

Residents claim that the body was dragged from across the road where it is believed the man could have been killed before being disposed of at the interchange.

"Mwili imevurutwa kutoka kwa miwa huko ikavukishwa barabara hata damu inaonyesha vile ilivukishwa barabara imemwagika ikikuja sasa hiyo time yote mwili inavurutwa hakuna mtu aliona na tuko na security hapa,” said Dan Khaemba.

Human rights activists have termed the latest murder as a matter of grave concern in the wake of abductions and extra-judicial killings want security officials to work with speed and arrest the situation which is getting out of hand.

Hussein Khalid, the Executive Director of Vocal Africa, said: "We are disappointed it appears as if the whole country is a dumping site for bodies, the whole country is a crime scene because we are picking bodies not just from rivers sasa mpaka kwa interchange miili inatupwa, we are asking the security agencies to do their job Kenyans don't feel safe.”

The body of the man believed to be in his 30s has since been taken to Nairobi Funeral Home.

Detectives from Athi River have commenced investigations into the incident.

Meanwhile, the families of Kalani Muema and Steve Mbisi who went missing from Mlolongo in December continue with the search for their loved ones after numerous visits to Nairobi Funeral Home with no luck.

The two friends disappeared together with Justus Musyimi and Martin Mwau who were later found dead at Nairobi Funeral Home.
