Business came to a standstill in Kabarnet town, Baringo County, after a swarm of bees descended on a motorbike which had been parked meters away from the main bus terminus.

This attracted a large crowd of people who came to witness the bizarre incident with some saying that it might be a result of witchcraft.

“Why did the bees choose to settle on this motorbike which was parked on a busy place and not on a calm place or on a tree as their usual norm?” said one resident.

Some of the locals could also be heard murmuring that the bike might have been stolen, and it was haunting the victim.

In an interesting turn of events, however, the owner of the motorbike appeared from the crowd and sped off on his motorbike undisturbed, causing some of the bees to fall on the ground, an act that left the residents reeling in shock.

Some of the bees could still be seen flying around the scene as passers-by fled the area.

John Yator, a retired chief, said that according to Kalenjin culture, bees are a sign of a curse and bad omen, especially if the victim does not seek the elders’ intervention.

Mr. Yator further added that something bad would befall the owner of the bodaboda.

“In the Kalenjin community, if bees descend on an extra ordinary place, it shows that something has been disputed for long and the offended is supposed to be served with justice, failure to which the offender could die,” said the former chief, whose sentiments were echoed by Micah Sumukwo, a resident of Kabarnet.
