Police in Kakamega County on Sunday arrested a 76-year-old man who is alleged to have hacked his son to death following a fight over maize at their home in Eshirembe village.

Area assistant chief Aggrey Maina said the suspect, John Makhoha, attacked his 36-year-old son Habil Amunze with a machete, accusing him of stealing six tins of his maize.

According to the chief, the 76-year-old man has in the past been accusing his son of stealing from him.

The deceased is reported to have been drunk when his father descended on him with a panga.

The suspect was detained pending arraignment.

The body of the deceased was moved to the Kakamega County Referral hospital mortuary.
