Only two Kenyan National Floorball players who played in the 2019 African Floorball championships have been retained in the Kenyan squad headed to Abidjan in September.

Faith Kimatwek and Joseph Irungu are the only players who took part in the squad that emerged as the victors in the 2019 tournament held in Nairobi who have been retained.

The national team head coach Kelvin Maina said most players who played in the 2019 tournament were left out because they left the sport and ventured into other things.

He, however, said they have already found talented players who have come on board to replace those who have left the game. He is optimistic the new players will do better for the Kenyan team.

“We have Faith Kimatwek and Mercy Cherangat in the women's team who are impressive. We also have many newcomers who are also impressive. We have retained Joseph Irungu in the men's team,” said Maina.

He said he keenly looked into the players’ ability to coordinate with others before selecting them for his team. According to him, players’ coordination is key to achieving his main agenda, retaining the trophy.

“ Players coordination was key in my team selection because without it we cannot win,” Maina emphasized.

The team will travel to Abidjan on the 12th of September if they get funding from the Ministry of Sports. They are, however, optimistic the ministry will fund their travel to the games.
